    Integrated Tarp and Hammock Suspension

After seeing a thread by Jaxx about his All In One Hammock And Tarp Suspension, I decided to make my own.

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...arp-Suspension

I know ideally they be on separate suspension and I do have a separate tarp and hammock that I use regularly but with this rig i'm going for maximum weight savings -- making a .9 weight asym tarp and 1.0 hammock.

I am no artist but quickly made this to illustrate my plan.

Tree strap to whoopie sling connection with marlin spike hitch, whoopie connected to Dutch biner. Dog bone from Dutch biner larks head to hammock. Hammock ridgeline connected to dog bone. Shock cord tarp tensioner goes through Dutch biner to Dutch Fleaz and connected at hammock with zing-it.

    Any feedback would be appreciated!

When you climb in, something is gunna sag, and i suspect it will result in a tarp on your face... If it doesn't, you have hung it so tight that it might be a tree on your face... But, I could be wrong.

With separate suspension, I don't know that my hammocks ridgline has ever gone slack when I get in. Plus that is why I am adding the shock cord from the tarp through the Dutch biner and down to the hammock ends - to take up any slack, if it does happen, or alleviate the tarp from any undue stress if it became too tight.

ditto the sag but let us know how ya like it

I tried it a few ways and used some shock material to take up slack but found it was not worth it ALSO for me a huge issue do not like my tarp with my hammock but now kinda prefer it on its own for many reasons
run it higher if I want
when wet out put up first
if wet overnight can pack everything away then the tarp last and no storing wet tarp with gear that should stay dry

    +1

Can't count how many times I've put up one without/before/after the other. That said, for some reason, I am loving the different single suspension ideas and I'll bet there's at least one part of the setup I can transfer to my kit..
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

    Integrated Tarp and Hammock Suspension

All points taken and much appreciated but I'm looking for input on this particular setup such as connection methods between different components or switching something out for a better alternative.

This is pretty similar to the hennessey hammock out of the box.

It's got some fiddle factor, particularly in how & where you secure the tarp.

This is the same basic siteup/issue as the Hennessy Hammocks, as there is little new on this site I would searching that out. There are several threads on how they sovled the problem on the HH most where to go to a separate tarp suspension some are on a single suspension. A few reasons for separate suspension beside tarp sag are rain break issues, needing a high or low tarp setup due to weather, changing tarps with different Ridge lengths, going tarpless.
I had to hang so close once that my hammock barely fit and my tarp went to a couple of saplings in relation to my lay angle to get the tarp to fit.
