Sometimes I splice, and sometimes, not. I use a single fisherman, and then bury the bitter ends. Never had a failure.

And that from the guy that suggested the innovation of the spliced loop in the first place.

another option ion if you don't want to dig into splicing yourself is most of us vendors make continuos loops is a few sizes to manufactures splicing specs.

I've had boots that were harder to lace than splicing amsteel. Don't be scared or nervous it really is that easy.

Just ordered some amsteel to make some CL's. Video made it look easy.

The only problem with splicing is that once you get the hang of it you can't stop. I started with CLs. Took me a couple trys untill i got the hang of it and made something i felt safe using. After that came whoopie slings, then soft shackles, and dog bones. Once I found the right size of wire to use for a fid it was a snap ( don't know the diameter was some wiring i took home from work and stripped to use). Amsteel is fairly inexpensive so you can afford to make mistakes. Amsteel CL zipper pulls on my hammock bug net? Yep.

Zing it and lash it or a little bit more of a challenge because of their size, but just as fun to work with. Zing it soft shackle key chain? Yep got one just because i could.

I've wondered about this. Because I have used paracord for CL before I came across amsteel. For the PC I use the double and the triple fishermans knots with good success. I used PC mostly cause I've got huge spools in storage. I've thought about using the F. Knot on the amsteel but haven't yet. I watched vids on making CL and have been splicing ever since. But I thought what if I'm on the trail and one of my loops fails with amsteel. With no tools to splice would it be ok to tie a double F. Knot? I'd say it would be fine. But as a disclaimer I haven't tried it with amsteel yet.

I just started splicing, and like everyone has said, it's actually very relaxing and addictive.

As far as needing an emergency solution while camping, for the ease of splicing with just a doubled over piece of wire, I'd be tempted just to bring a piece of wire in my pack and splice on the go.

I spliced ZingIt with a big–headed darning needle that I carry in my repair kit.
