Fair enough. I like to err on the side of caution, myself, and figure if I can go light while still remaining string, soft and comfy.... that's what I'm gonna do

Unless they make a breathable cuben, it is not well suited for hammock material.... Nor would it be very comfortable.

Hate to break it to you... The ripstop grid is virtually pointless in terms of hammock use. Ripstop was designed for garments to briars and thorn bushes from tearing the fabric. Once you hang a person's weight in a hammock the ripstop grid ceases to provide any semblance of safety. I can tear ripstop with my bare hands and do so frequently. IMO po;yester taffeta provides the best feel.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I thought that ripstop also helped to reduce stretch. Is that not true?

My one DIY hammock is made from polyester. No stretch compared to most nylons. Don't know anything about strength, but I have slept in it several times. I am about 165 or so.
