    Hammock Stand Question...

...probably someone has done something like this already but my searches didn't come up with anything.

I've got a small yard but I do have *1* tree that would be great to hang from. I need a 2nd one though for obvious reasons.

Is there a partial hammock stand or perhaps some kind of tripod that people have made that would basically take the place of 1 tree?

i used a 6" x 2' pvc pipe from home depot and buried that in the ground with some cement. i got a drain cover for it... then i got a 5 3/4" x 9' pole (from a custom pole shop here in town) and i put that in the pvc pipe when i want the hammock up and take it out when i don't. it seems to work really well.

we have a gravel back yard so the trick is to keep the gravel from falling in the hole and getting the pole stuck. if the pole just fits, this helps, but i also clear away all the gravel around the pipe before i open the drain grate. once it did get stuck so i drilled a hole in the pole and put in a bolt and used my car jack to lift the pole out.

That looks good - but I was kind of hoping for something that wasn't so permanent. I've got a single tree to play with but I was hoping to maybe be able to put down a 3-legged tripod that could support a hammock and tarp for the night and then move it the next morning.

Kids need the backyard to play in too and the last thing I want to do is put a few more obstacles for them to run into.

I have done this a few times. Had to pound a large stake in the ground.

Looks a lot sturdier than KdawgCrazy's solution. Could this be a future video, Shug?

I have been thinking about something like this for indoors, but with a fence top pole so the A-frame ends don't have to be staked out on the ends.

You can do the three legged tripod, but you'll need a top bar to go to the tree. If you do that, you can hang from the top bar. Put a prusik loop around the top bar and suspend it as close to the tree as possible, aiming at the trunk (hoping it's not too small a trunk). Suspend the other end of the bar from a tripod and hang the hammock off the bar.

Another option is, if the tree is large enough, to hang from two branches of the tree, as long as you're just far enough out from the trunk.
