    WaHHA - Watoga waits!

Two months to WaHHA, and there's a hint of crispness in the air up at the park now. We had a successful inaugural Mountain Trail Challenge (trail running half marathon and 5K races) two weeks ago, and now I'm cutting my firewood for the winter and working on the People's Bridge Hammock for the raffle. The dates are October 21-22-23, but come early or stay late if you can. Glad to hear some are biking or hiking the river trail. There are also approach hikes possible on the Allegheny Trail from the north or the south - about 10 miles for each from two convenient trailheads, but longer if you wish. PM me if you want details and links to trail descriptions. There's hiking in the park, too - 44 miles of it. Also the Cranberry Wilderness is 20 minutes away by car. (But Watoga's so pretty, once you get here you won't want to leave.)

Starting to make decisions on what I will bring for the raffle. So far I have these items: Pocket Rocket stove in its case; Insultex, full-length underquilt (I call it a 1 season, but you may call it a 2-season; it will fit a gathered end or a Bear Mtn Bridge hammock, so it may fit the hammock WV is bringing for the raffle) and a Mountain Laurel Designs Asym diamond hammock tarp (this is made of Spinntex and weighs about 6.5 oz rigged with light line).
"May" have a netted hammock if I get motivated to sew the zipper on before WaHHA!.
I am also bringing an alcohol stove collection for either the raffle or giveaway depending on the stove. I rarely use alcohol stoves, so decided these needed new homes.

My husband and I are planning to come! Great stuff in raffle already! Thanks WV and Pat! Kale kale, one good thing since this is car camping you can bring in a lot of blankets, pads, hot water bottles, hot hands, etc to keep warm.

Ah man. I was at Watoga for the first time on Sunday and loved it. Unfortunately I have a camping trip in the Smokies that weekend already planned. If it flops then I will absolutely be there for this.

Kale Kale: I have a double layer hammock and I have switched from using an underquilt, to foam pads. I tend to sleep in odd positions,
that seem to create cold spots no matter how I adjust the under quilt. So hence the switch. CCF pads don't absorb water, so no matter how wet they get,
they can still keep you warm. Plus if you have to go to ground for whatever reason, foam pads underneath you are much better than an under quilt. The colder it gets the more pads I carry.
They weigh about the same as a quilt but they are very bulky. I just strap them on the outside of my pack.

I will probably arrive late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
After the hang I'm planning on bike camping along the rail trail so sometime Sunday or Monday morning
I will be looking for a shuttle.
I understand there are parts of the rail trail that were washed out in a storm.
Is there any reason why I couldn't walk or carry my bike around those washouts?

Thanks everyone for the quilt offers! I actually made a DIY one the other day, so if my schedule stays clear, I should be good!

It is a pretty decent tarp. I just don't use it a lot. Did take it on an April trip, but I did not even need a tarp that night. I have used it in the rain, just the straight down rain, not any wind-driven stuff. Stayed dry and that is all you can ask for.

Are you getting your hubby in a hammock?! Will be good to see you two and chat about trips.
