Was wondering the same thing.
I have both. I prefer the spiders because they are much easier to adjust, but the cinch bugs just work better for my bridge hammock (I just have a dogbone on each corner of the hammock, so one connects to each side of the cinch bug).
I don't think you can go wrong either way, but you'll end up with both, and that will make you a better person.
It's bad luck to be superstitious.
