I have the Kelty 12' being delivered shortly, but for what it's worth, I have used the 9' version with my 11' hammock regularly in our Ohio rain (without too much wind). You should be in great shape with the 12'. I figure the weight is a personal call.

Oh wow bradym77 that's perfect! Yea I'm not very fond of getting my hammock wet at night. I'm excited for it to be here now! It's coming from Cali so it might take a while haha
Seems my experience with it might be a bit off compared to most. I'd go with what others are saying, as again, my hammock is larger, and I've only really hung it in A frame mode once (about a year ago). I dug around a bit, and this is unfortunately the only photo I have of it, and its not from a great angle. But you can see how there is just a bit of sunlight on the end of my hammock, which was sticking out from under the tarp in A frame mode, with the doors tied back. The other end stuck out a few inches as well.
Thats one of my nephews in there.
And the other photo is of it in diagonal "mode", with the sides tied out really far/high. Because its a 12x12, its ~17ft on the diagonal, so you get a good 2-3 feet of coverage at either end, which works quite well at blocking everything (although, not as good at blocking wind as it is hung square with the "doors" shut).
EDIT: It looks like you already ordered it. In which case, enjoy it, its a good versatile tarp that should last you a long time. Also, maybe come back with some photos of it covering your 11ft hammock so others with the same question will know .
This was setup for 3-4 days at a family reunion right after I purchased the tarp. All sorts of people used it, and when I had spare time, i was trying different configurations (and escaping for naps ). The last day there I thought about that doing exactly that, but didn't have a chance to try it. The few times I've been able to camp since then, I slept "topless" (no tarp, it was very fair weather).
But next time I'll try it for sure. I do think that would give me the few extra inches I need.
I love my Kelty Noah 12. I use it with my 11' Dutch hammock. Works great!
dang, I've been watching REI for Kelty 12' tarps for our 2 hammocks for about a month, but now that I'm ready to buy, they're all gone wont find a deal like that again... guess I'm back to DYI, sewing is gonna hold up our planned camping trips for a couple months at least - disappointed

I have two of the guide gear diamond shaped tarps this same size and yep they'd be humongous. I actually cut them down to shorten them into a more usable size. Many times when using them in their original size I was limited to the trees I could use by the tarp being sooooooo big.
They're on Woot relatively often
