I like to bring somebody to cook for me. I don't mind carrying good food, but I enjoy it much better when someone else cooks it!

Reading that first sentence, I thought this was going to be something along the lines of Backpacker Magazine's video "How To Eat Your Hiking Partner".

So I added "for me" so it doesn't sound so creepy.

My Light My Fire Swedish Firesteel - Army. It reliably lights my stove but, if I need a fire, I can make a fire. I really like this http://www.lightmyfire.com/products/...esteel-20.aspx

    Spice kit.
Upgrading mine to a dozen for the Spring.

Loose tea, nice to take the time to make it.

Also carry my Helinox chair or a stool.

About the only doo-dad I bring is an Emberlit EL Mini titanium wood-burning stove - weighs about 4.5 ounces. I hardly ever use it but it sure seems useful. I use it a lot more when I'm hiking solo.

WV is a big gatherer of wood. I remember watching him at a group hang gather wood the evening before, for his morning fire. It had been raining, and he cut the bark off each piece of wood he processed, as I recall. He said the moisture was in the bark, not the wood.

I'm gonna add a Titanium french press soon.

Car camping and backpacking are two very different lists. But, for either, I always make sure I have twice the coffee I need. It never ceases to amaze me hot a hot cup of coffee can make a bad situation that much more tolerable. Whether it's equipment failure, getting lost or bad weather - if I can sit with a hot cup of coffee, I can typically work through the situation and get a positive outcome.
