Kirtland, right? I am from Perry originally, so we played you guys in CVC contests in high school. You've got Punderson State Park pretty close... there are defiintely some sites that are hangable there. You can also try Findley State Park, and the Park and Pack sites at Mohican. Geneva State Park has a few hangable sites, but that place is always packed....plus it's expensive for an Ohio State Park.
I cant tell you many site #'s off the top of my head.. 236 and 250 at Findley lake........ Id just go drive around the park and select your site instead of reserving it online. You're close enough to Punderson that you could just drive out midweek and scout the place probably. They also offer photos of the sites, but they are terrible angles and low resolution so that makes it difficult to make a decision.
Any of the camp sites at the lake metro parks or geauga park district parks would suit you fine as well. Some of them have pics online. I think lake county residents can camp for free at lake metro parks if I am not mistaken.

I'd quote a certain book, but that is not allowed.
Lake County residents pay a bit less than out of county residents , but it isn't free, sadly. They do have some nice sites, though. I worked for LMP for years in Maintenance, I was really happy to hear/see when they added these sites. They all require a bit of a walk in, though. (not lengthy at all)

You're right Marmaduke. It's the Geauga county parks that are free for residents.

It's not a big place! We have a fledgling park system.
Someday there will be some public areas for primitive camping in the county.
