    First night in the Sparrow

I am well impressed. This hammock blows me away. Having owned some of the high-profile hammocks that come highly recommended on this forum, both gathered-end and bridge, my initial impression is that the Sparrow is the total package that solves two nagging issues that the others could not: calf ridge and side sleep comfort. I could not believe that there was no calf ridge, having previously accepted the fact that it was just part of the gathered-end experience. I even moved myself closer to the foot end just to see if the calf ridge might be present there. Doing so only produced a tightening of the central material, but nothing that could be considered a "ridge".

Second issue. I am a side sleeper at home, exclusively a side sleeper, and I had given up long ago trying to find a comfortable position on my side in my other hammocks that would allow me to sleep for more than fifteen minutes before waking to turn on my back again. In this Sparrow I found a very comfortable side experience, on both sides, that I can enjoy for as long as I want. That may be due to the extra width of the 72" Hyper D XL.

Thank you Pappa and Mamma Smurf. The quality of your hammock is the best I have seen. Your pride in the product you produce and your traditional American old-world craftsmanship is apparent as soon as you open the box and hold it in your hands. All in all, this hammock is a quantum leap beyond anything I had previously experienced.

It was a long, expensive and enjoyable learning experience, and I will continue to learn, but hammock-wise, I think the journey is over. With the purchase of this Sparrow I have arrived at hammock nirvana. I don't think I'll need to be buying any more hammocks.

Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations. When you have to wait a year to sleep next to a tree, something is wrong. ~George Carlin

Famous last words.... Dream Hammock is one of the best camping hammock companies in the world. They drive the industry with innovation and quality. I wouldn't stand too firm on that statement about not needing to buy any other hammock, I'm sure something new will be tempting you soon.....

Just my two cents about the Smith family and the Dream Hammocks...got to visit them a couple of weeks ago when I was in Ohio visiting my family. Stopped by their shop and got to meet them. Quality people and took the time to spend with me. Top quality, great service and just plain nice people. Number one in my book!!!! By the way I have 4 Dangerbirds) Keep up the great work... you make us proud!

Any suggestions on how to have no calf ridge? Maybe my legs are just wider than normal?

    First night in the Sparrow

Got one and I'm still asking...

Don't get me wrong.. I absolutely love my sparrow and it's the first hammock I can do any asym laying in at all. I do notice a little calf ridge so I'm wondering if maybe I should raise the feet more or something..

    I'm sure it's just me...

I do not know. I only know that there is no calf ridge. I adjusted my suspension so that the head end was roughly 12" lower than the foot end. I don't think that had anything to do with it though, because that only moves you towards the head end and away from the calf ridge if one is present. I purposely moved towards the foot end to see if I could produce a calf ridge. Moved a LONG WAY towards that end. I could not produce a calf ridge. I did not use tie-outs to spread the hammock to pull the calf ridge out of the hammock as can be done by tying out the sides. No, absolutely no side tie-out strategery employed here to eliminate a calf ridge: It just has no calf ridge. I swear, this thing is so comfortable I giggle involuntarily every time I get in it. Hope that doesn't wear off.

My time management has gone to crap though...
