So here is a video update of the hammock. I may continue to try to improve this. It is for sale BTW. Oh and it came in under 2.5 pounds, could be even light without the shelf...

Yeah, I did not have underquilts in mind while making it. I don't use underquilts so I just mess around with what I like.
And yes, you can get wet, although I found if you get under it the perpindicular pole holds the tarp out enough to get a small dry spot before entering, but this is definitely not a severe weather item.

Concerns I have.....
1. Looks like it would be hard to use an UQ.
2. No place to get in out of the rain for cooking, sitting, changing clothes, putting on shoes, etc.
3. Ventilation & condensation when it's raining or snowing.

Don't think I've ever heard that, nor have I heard what you say in your signature line: I strive for excellent weight and price characteristics in my products, making many of my products fair weather orientated.

Hi Durtsurf.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses as I always admire someone with new ideas, drive, a vision, and ambition. It doesn't get more American than that!

If it's not conducive to under quilts, does it have a pad pocket?
Would the attached mini tarp handle a garden variety brief summer rainstorm? I like the little over cover/vestibule design, but I would be afraid to be out anywhere without a tarp that I could trust in a downpour. Where I camp, raft, and kayak there's always a chance of rain pretty much anytime.
