Never finished an audible book. I fall asleep (cozy hammock!) and it keeps playing so I don't know where I left off.
I THOUGHT GETTING OLDER WOULD TAKE MUCH LONGER.

I carry a real camera. Take pictures of the day. Fly fishing, scenery, camp site and nature. I can't wait lay back in the hammock and edit pics. To me It's best part of the hike.

I usually end up walking until it's almost dark. By the time I do all my stuff around camp and eat, it's bedtime. If I do stop early, I usually just lay around in the hammock. It's so nice to be by myself in the woods, that I don't feel the need to do something or entertain myself.

I've actually never backpacked with anyone else. My wife won't go and my friends have no interest in it. So when I get all set up, it can get lonely.

    - If the weather is nice, say 60° and fair, I can just lie in my hammock for 30 minutes here and there to kill time. A chance to air out my feet/ dry socks and rest. When it's colder, I don't find myself lounging as much.
    - Short hikes around camp
    - Process fire wood and sit around the fire with a drink (whiskey or wine)
    - If I have a good signal, I'll listen to some music with Pandora while sitting by the fire
    - Sit and view the scenery (if I'm near a river or lake)
    - If I really get bored I'll lie in the hammock and watch shows or movies I put on my iPhone.

I also am a huge fan of the audiobook. I actually take a very small (1" diameter) bluetooth speaker. I place it near me and listen to books or music. Since it is not headphones I still get some of the sounds of nature as well.

That's me, man. I can stare at a fire for hours.

Other things would be read, explore the surrounding area, or learn something. Currently, I'll either bring a morse code tutor, a thumb piano or harmonica. Anything to just relax and wash the city out of my soul.

I usually enjoy the fire, collect more firewood, staring into the stars and sky, think deep thoughts about life or whatever, smoke pipe and drinking booze. In any order.

I solo hike for the same reasons as markr6 and I'm not a person who can sit still for long, so I generally hike until just before dark. By the time I setup and feed myself its sack time. If I have trouble falling asleep, a rarity to be sure, I read my kindle or play Sudoku for awhile.
