Hammock soft shackle.jpg
I slept in the yard the last time it wasn't raining to try out the new soft shackle I made after watching your video. They worked great. Even had 2 hammocks hanging on the same shackle and had no problem and the shackle didn't look any worse for wear afterwards.
Great pic, glad its all working out for peeps, its a great way to save weight and your tree straps hardware free hangs, am looking at ucr guy lines for tarps now

Nice tutorial, interesting option defiantly easier than the diamond knot. That break in the look has me a little concerned though even at the rate or 230%.
Well thought i would try something a bit more difficult for fun

I never have enough patience to splice that fishing line, that braid's got a tight old weave.

I use 1/8 amsteel and tie a diamond knot making a fixed loop. Then use fixed loop (same size as a soft shackle) as a soft shackle placing it around both items to be shackled and making a larks head in one end and inserting diamond knot into larks head. This is a real fast soft shackle and it is not as strong as real soft shackle but it will work for hammocks.

Awesome video, I made a few of these soft shackles last night. Two questions:
1) am I messing with the strength significantly if I shorten the amount of line? Video suggests 48" and I'd prefer to start with 40" but wouldn't want to reduce strength. I know just enough to be dangerous...
2) On the set I made, I can't help but think that the sliding loop that goes over the knot could have been quite a bit smaller. Should't it "choke" the two amsteel lines? The loop is still smaller than the knot but I wonder if it couldn't have been even smaller - unless I'd be creating a weaker point by putting too much pressure on the line.
Thanks again!
The knot you show us how to tie also works very well with the Grappler's Hitch. Thanks for the share. Grapenut
