Anyone else is backyard testing tonight.

So at my house tonight it is suppose to be -18* with a 15-25 mph wind. That is well beyond anything I have tested in. I am so excited. Tonight I am debating on hammock but I will be using a HG 0* burrow with 3 oz overfill, a 20* burrow with 3oz overfill on top plus mid weigh base layers. Under neath I will use a 0* incubator it 4oz overfill and a 20oz Phoenix no over fill. Plus a 2qzq UQP and a superfly to break the wind. On my head a fleece balaclava with neoprene mask and two hats, one being a black rock down hat.

So who else is going out?

Put your tarp real low (touching the ground) and pile some snow on it. Grab a snack. You'll be all right!

I figured that I would be. The lowest I have been in is -12* but much more milder wind. That will be the biggest issue to deal with.

    Thanks for the reminder.

Only supposed to be -12°F in Central Mass. But I will be testing as well.

Right now I planned on using my 0° top and UQ coupled with my 40° top and bottom. But you've made me think about upping my game to use my 20° gear. But that's what backyard testing is for I guess...

I have my overcover and a an undercover plus my Winter Dream for the wind. I'll use a heavyweight synthetic base layer with maybe another light fleece top. Fleece/neoprene facemaskcombo and a Blackrock down hood also. I've used this setup with only the 0° quilts lighter weight base layers down to 5° and been toasty. We'll see what an extra 15° can do I guess.

Good luck and stay warm. I'm off to do some snowshoeing this afternoon.

    Check Check.
Not the back yard but camp about 30-40mins away.

Never got the overstuff handled on my 0º burrow or 20º Zepplin so will be supplementing with some CostCo quilt layers.
    Gonna be fun.

Looks like I will be sleeping out also. -23°c windchill down to -33. Gear has all been used more than 10° colder but hey why not.

I was out last night (-9*F in Minneapolis). I doubled up 20* Burrow topquilts which worked great. However, my 0* Incubator and 2QZQ underquilt protector let me down a bit. I woke several times with a chilled lower back and butt. My 20* Incubator easily performs at 10-15* below its rating. I guess I expected (hoped for) the same from my 0* Incubator.

I'll be back out tonight but a front is moving through and we are expecting slightly warmer temps.

Note; Shug uses a piece of fleece tied to his ridgeline and looped around his head to catch the condensation from his breath. Strongly consider something, even extra towel thrown over your chest. I woke this AM with a large area of my topquilt resembling a glacier.

    Good Luck

I won't be sleeping outside tonight, as I have plans, but you guys may have just inspired me to head outside and do a test hang right now for a few hours.

I'm going to go sans-tarp though since I won't be out long. I'll double up my Snugpak hammock cocoon with my long AHE New River winter. Probably use my 20deg sleeping bag as a TQ inside that.

Every day is a good day.

Excellent idea gentlemen. Sixpoint Brewery Global Warmer to help with the windchill.
