    tie-dye gathered end hammock

ok... here is my tie dye gathered end hammock... i definitely underestimated the amount of work for a gathered end hammock... i thought: "it's a bit rectangle, how hard could that be". this one is 1.6 hyper d with amsteel 1/8" continuous loops larksheaded to warbonnet cinch buckles... i like this hammock. i call the tie dye pattern "az king snake".

here is some of the tie dye process:

Yeah. It'll get down to low 50's tonight. We don't have under quilts yet so we will need to improvise something. We have thin az blood after all. I'm thinking tie a towel to hold a foam pad under there. Or maybe a sleeping bag.

thanks shug! and thanks for all those great videos... i have seen that one before... i have a couple reason why i don't wanna do the pad right in the hammock:
    1. i eventually want to us an underquilt so i want to try it out as close as possible to how we're really gonna be camping
    2. i'm a bit worried about all the squirming around and shifting to get the pad in the right place... you make it look easy, but i can imagine there is alot of "art" to it... i just don't want it shifting on the kids all night...
    3. i'm wondering about the thermarest valve... can that cause a problem snagging on the hammock fabric?

asctually, the kids have sleeping bags so i think those will be easy enough to tie up under the hammock with some tech line... unfortunately, i just loaned my sleeping bad to a friend so maybe i'll try the ccf pad we have from walmart... it is 25" wide so it might be easier to position under myself.

We had a good time. Got a bit cold with the breeze so I think I'll have to figure some stuff out for our next overnight test.

Also my son abandoned the bunk hammock idea. I think he was nervous about the height. So now I'll need an extra tarp but I can go with much smaller tarps now.

Glad they enjoyed, in spite of the chill. You might try the pad route with their bags first, you'd be surprised how well the pad stays put when the hammock curls around it. I understand not wanting the top bunk in this case, haha!. How did the post handle the load with two hammocks on it?
