    dutch buckle vs. spiders

what's the difference between dutch buckle vs. spider? they both are replacement for marlinspike right? They both seem like they can adjust up and down the tree strap. they both allow direct attachment of the hammock.

In what situations is each one preferred?

The spider creates a cinch buckle with a continuous loop whereas the Dutch buckle is much more difficult to adjust quickly. The spider is awesome to use with long webbing as a full suspension. They are both very similar in functioning as a MSH replacement with a whoopie sling .

so if I want something I can adjust up and down the strap easier I should go with the Spider?

Also, can I just attach these to the tree huggers I already have? (sewn loops on each end)

I've got Dutch buckles that I use with whoopies and I like them, but agree that they are a little "tough" to adjust. They are far superior to a msh imho. I typically try to make most of my adjustments with the whoopies and only relocate the buckles if one tree is significantly larger diameter than the other ( to keep things centered). I feel they really shine in their ability to fold up with the straps and hold everything together; that's a really creative design from Dutch.

    dutch buckle vs. spiders

Just a thought.. I use Dutch buckles and continuous loops and while they're not easy to adjust, for me that translates into knowing they are not likely to slip. I'm sure the Spiders are great and I'm soon going to add them to my arsenal. For many of us dutchware addicts it's not "this vs that" , it's "OK what else can I buy from Dutch?"

I absolutely LOVE my spiders. I only have one pair, but no matter which of my hammocks I'm currently hanging, I use the spiders instead of whichever suspension is packed up with the hammock. The spiders "live" with my Blackbird XLC but are regularly robbed to be used with whatever I'm hanging at the moment. I just need more spiders--LOL!

Not sure why you'd even want to do that. What's your suspension set-up?

whoopie slings on 5 ft tree huggers. sometimes I find myself needing to have the hammock suspension closer to the tree after maxing out on my whoopie sling

I have a ton of Dutchgear, including his whoopie and 5' tree huggers. I recently purchased his Spiders with 15' tree huggers and they were much easier to set up. Here in northern California, the trees are huge, so I was often having trouble with using the shorter tree huggers and whoopie slings. Since using the Spiders, setup has become easier, more flexible, and easier to adjust. I still bring the whoopie slings, in case I need additional length.

Can these spiders be used on the Kevlar straps? Or are they too thin and would let the spider slip?
