    DIY Tarp Panel Pull Advice

This weekend I'll be putting the finishing touches on my new Multicam winter tarp and I've begun my typical indecisiveness before finishing a project.

I'm stuck on the "ideal" method of adding side panel pulls. I've dug through tons of posts about the topic on here, most a few years old, so now I'm hoping some of you can sway me with more recent experiences and advice.

My questions relate to the very subjective best method of reinforcing the panel pulls. I have a stock of HyperD 300 that I had planned on using for reinforcement on the side panel pulls. The panel pulls will be used in conjunction with an over the top of the tarp pole mod set.

    1) A three layer approach - inside HyperD300 patch - tarp - outside HyperD300 patch with grosgrain pullout. The grosgrain pullout would be sewn through all 3 layers.

    ______ HyperD
    -------- Tarp
    ______ HyperD
    ╙ Grosgrain Pullout

    2) Two layer inside reinforced - an inside reinforcement patch of HD300 - tarp - outside grosgrain pullout. The grosgrain would be sewn through both layers.

    _______ HyperD
    --------- Tarp
    ╙ Grosgrain Pullout

    3) Two layer outside reinforced - tarp - outside reinforcement patch of HD300- outside grosgrain pullout. The grosgrain would be sewn through both layers.

    --------- Tarp
    _______ HyperD
    ╙ Grosgrain Pullout

Hopefully the explanation or the crappy pictures help explain things. I know this could be one of those subjective items, but I'm open to advice that anyone would care to share.

    Thanks

Option #2 gets my vote. Should be plenty strong plus puts a minimum of seams or edges on the outside of the tarp.
    Good luck,

Appreciate your thoughts. This was my original thought, much for the same reasons you mentioned, but I got a bit distracted looking through the forums and seeing a variety of methods on diy and vendor versions.

I'm reasonably confident that I'll continue with this route. Thanks again!

I'm mulling over the exact same topic, so interested to hear what people say. I'll go with a two layer approach regardless - it's not a huge difference, but I cut down on weight wherever I can and it seems two layers should be strong enough.

I went with option 2, except I used a piece of grosgrain in the shape of V instead of HyperD. Seems to be working well so far.

Old thread but I want to add one or two to my hot tent.

I like what Tacblades did above. With a layer inside and outside, how can I keep them put while sewing? Some kind of glue? Sew one at a time? Or just mad skills?

I'll have a lot of material packed under the sewing machine arm, so things won't be easily managed that's why I'm thinking of a way to keep them aligned well.

Maybe a thin layer of contact cement to keep things in place? Once a very thin layer is applied to the patch and tarp, then allowing for proper curing time of both surfaces after they're stuck together, it ain't going anywhere... ever. Which is of course, the downside. 😬
