    The Clam Concept by DurtSurf

Here is a new thing I threw together yesterday. That shelf is supposed to be tied off to a third tie out point, not resting on that chair. It's unfinished for sure. I used two tent poles to support the roof st the moment. I installed some reinforcements for the poles, some temporary, till I see what really works. So basically you have a hammock with a storage shelf all protected by an attached tarp. Wheels are spinning about doors, bug net, etc. Lot's of work though...

Man, you come up with some cool stuff. My favorite to date is the triangle hammock, which looks like is kinda being used here. Keep sharing these cool ideas with us please.

Interesting idea. As I look at it, it brings up some questions. Just curious how you're dealing with a few things.

    • Is the side with the shelf supposed to be flat, so it would be tied out to a tree/etc right at that height that its at right there?
    • Does the shelf hold much weight? It seems like it would sag too much to put something like a bag in it, so you'd mostly be limited to lighter weight things (clothes/etc).
    • How are you connecting the tarp to the hammock along the main axis? It looks like the tarp goes under/into the hammocks gathered end, which "seems" like it would cause a problem if it rained, as it would drain into the hammock (which sounds distinctly not fun).

It seems like the idea could be pretty good for certain areas, I'm just trying to think of pros-cons of the design as a whole. There looks like there is less tarp material, which might save some weight, but then there are poles, which adds some back. The shelf is nice for keeping things close/dry, but not sure how that would flap about in the wind.

Its interesting to think about for sure . And nicely done, it looks very well made for just a "prototype". I'm interested to see how the idea develops .

Very cool! It would be pretty neat to have your pack right next to you on that shelf.

I wonder how it would do in a downpour? Would rain pool up in each of the corners and leak down inside? What about high winds? It is cool and I like how it's pretty much self contained. Nice to see some out of the box thinking!

I like it, great idea! Maybe some issues with strong wind? It looks like a ~9 m2 area Kite or Speedflyer wing and they can "produce" a lot of force
