AN FYI CONCERNING LARGER GUYS AND 2.2 KEVLAR TREE STRAPS

Just to share my experiences with the 2.2 kevlar tree straps, I'm a larger guy (320) and ordered the 2.2 kevlar tree straps to use a whoopie suspension with the strap going tight around the tree and looped through its loop at one end and a toggle/marlin spike hitch for hanging the whoopie. I've used it twice so far overnight. Both nights, during the night, the 2.2 straps would roll over itself from the back side of the tree during the night, in effect causing it to turn into a round rope by morning and, therefore, cutting into the tree I was hanging from. Apparently, this strap is so thin and narrow, that once a downward angle is applied to part of it, it will have a high tendency to roll into a rope. Now, it may not do that with folks of smaller sizes, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this with the 2.2. Alternatively, if you have experienced this, have you found a way to prevent it ? Thanks.

I don't have anything to contribute to this discussion other than to say thank you for pointing out the issue.

I think Lifescout mentioned roll over to me at HangCon. He is much lighter and was using 1 inch kevlar straps.

I use Rallt straps. 500 lb. safe working load, multiple tie-in's for biners. Work great!

Thank you johnmark. I am a big dude too and the 3.3 straps seem to hold up well so far, I would say they have over a hundred hours on them. I flop around like a fish out of water and they do not show any wear yet. Maybe the extra 1.1 grams gives the braid extra stability. I will keep a close eye on this. What kind of tree / bark did you use your straps on?
