    DIY: Introducing the Sloth Hammock

I have decided to jump into the fray. I purchased my thread injector (Singer 9100), loaded some nylon upholstery thread (I have my Gütermann MARA 70 coming from ripstopbytheroll) and jumped in with both feet! I would love any and all feedback.

I present ... the Sloth Hammock.
11 ft. Red Ripstop with a fixed structural ridge line and whoopie slings. I have double knotty mods and a center cinch.

    The Sloth

    Center cinch and knotty mod

I used button holes for the knotty mod.

I used a zip tie for the end.

A personal touch to identify my hammocks.

Looks like good work. What weight is the fabric?

I'm not sure. I found it at a local store. If I had to guess I would say 1.6. Is there a way to tell?

BTW Durtsurf I just watched your video on the triangle hammock. I love the idea. Even if it was detachable like a gear pod or something. My mind is in overdrive right now with that concept.

I don't think so. I think a lot of the manufacturers weights are pre-silicone, which adds a variable amount of weight. If you don't know I'd guess it's 1.9. If that's the case you could go lighter, down to about 1.3 in my book. Yeah there is a lot of room for improvising with this stuff, huh?

The only way to find out what weight an (un-coated) fabric is, is weighing it before you sew it. The larger the piece of fabric, the more accurate the result.

Does DWR weigh anything extra? I always figured it did.

I never noticed huge discrepancies. But I'm not sure which - if any - of the fabrics I weighed had DWR. In any case, I don't think that DWR adds considerable weight. Also, I think it washes out pretty quickly.
