    Dual use tree straps

There is nothing new about Marlinspike Hitch and toggles but maybe this way?
I haven’t looked so maybe it has been done before.

There are different solutions to keep track of the toggles, strings, pockets and what not but why not build them in to the tree straps?
My tree huggers has loops in both ends because it’s nice to have. With this idea you can use the straps any way you want loop and all and the toggles will rarely get in your way and they will never get lost.

This is how I did it.
Fold some fabric over the webbing and sew close to the edge on both sides.

Pull the end all the way through the two layers of fabric.

Sew one end shut, put in the toggles and sew the other end shut. Cut any extra fabric and seal the ends with a flame.

BTW my straps are made from 1” webbing and the aluminum tube I used is 8mm (5/16”) in diameter and about 2 ½” long. If you want to use a bigger diameter tube you may have to make a fold in the fabric to make room inside. (Test before sewing!)

You could do it with webbing if you are making new straps and the inverting part is not a must just the way I did it.

    Nice. Very elegant.

Until I switched to Dutch Buckles, I just kept my toggles tied to one of te loops with a string.

This is a very neat and clean idea though.

Very similar to something I proposed a year or so ago. The idea I had was to slip it inside the end of the strap and seal it. The feedback I got was it would make it more difficult to pull out. Especially in inclement weather. There are other ideas like tying it on to the end of the strap etc that would make it easier to manage. But I love the thought and ingenuity of your idea.

How about threading the tape through the tube, maintaining the smooth surface on the outside, easier to slip out.

The sticky part was also on my mind. At first I wanted to use Silpoly or similar because of the smooth surface but I feared is was too thin so i used polyester (1.9oz). Not as smooth but i think it will do. For the most part I have a relative big loop on the strap (depending on the tree) to pull on so i doubt it will be a problem but time will show. If i am wrong it wont be the first time

Not a bad idea. Could be done but it requires a tube the webbing can fit into. I doubt it will fit into the the tube i used.

I have to agree with that feedback! Sometimes difficult enough to pull out a perfectly smooth toggle.

Have you checked to see how much water, if any, will stay in the pouch?

Constructive criticism is a good thing I have been wrong before so I made some tests with load on the strap. It was not a problem to pull it out, no harder than the small carabineers I have been using until now. I never had a problem removing my carabineers so it was not a problem in my mind.

This mod was made on a pair of existing straps but if I was making a new pair I think would do it different and it would be easier to pull it out if sewn to the ends.
The difference between this and just have them attached with a cord is its easier to roll them up after use when they are sewn on to the webbing. No dangling items and a clean look.
