    Do you need toggles?

    Check fastenal.

Went into our local branch here today to pick up some bolts and nuts for work. While I was browsing around, I found their metal rack. Much to my happiness, I found 3/8' x 3' solid aluminum rod in the bin.

It rang up to 4.80 after taxes.

I'm going to cut 2 pieces @ 4" for whoopie sling Marlin Spikes and 2 pieces @ 3" for toggles for the loop of cordage that comes from my tarp ridgeline to the tarp d-rings.

I've considered cutting 6 2" pieces, drilling holes through the center and threading the shock cord through it, knotting it so it doesn't come back out then attaching that to my ground hogs.

anyway. for 5 bucks, it's going to present a lot of things to do.

You can get these aluminum rods at Home Depot or Lowes as well. I have a couple that I will be cutting down for toggles, though only for my hammock suspension, I like purssiks for my tarp ridgeline and an even simpler solution for my guy lines.

I still use the prussic, but before I was using a nite ize biner. Now, I leave the biner at home and stick the loop end of the prussic through the d-ring, insert toggle, then pull taught.

That's a pretty simple solution, not bad. My concern is wind gusts and the toggle finding it's way out with the tarp bouncing around. It would probably never happen, but knowing Murphy as I do, it is a concern.

yeah, I do have that concern. This would probably work better with grosgrain than d-rings. I'll experiment and see what happens.

    Never used D-rings.

All of our tarps have grosgrain or 1" webbing. Slipping has never been a problem or even a hint of a problem and the thought of the toggles slipping has never even occurred to me.

We use trail sticks for toggles and the rough surface alone keeps the toggles from slipping even when the tarp hasn't yet been pulled tight.

I am a fan of the metal big gulp slurpee straw.
Because you fall through the clouds if you try to lay on them, so the next best thing is a hammock.

The 7-11's around here don't even sell the straws other wise I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some.
