So many trees, so little time...
Time to go read my favorite posts on lightning in the backcountry!

Yeeeeah I think I'm gonna go dig out my old tent. Nice knowing ya'll.
That happened in the woods across the street from my house a few years back. The regular lightning strike boom (I swear I live on an ancient burial ground), was louder than usual. Went outside and I had a bunch of 12' long spears, giant toothpicks, sticking up in my yard. Was really quite something.

That gives a whole new meaning to the term Widow Maker!!!
Retired US Navy, 10-year Stage IIIb colon cancer survivor. I believe my last words will be "Hold my beer..."
I would definitely need a change of underwear after that.
When it's your time to go.....just hope you sleep through it......
I remember an old oak tree exploding like that at my old house in the Lake District, the tree was 50m from my living room where I was reading and the house shook like a little earthquake had hit. Amazing power but it's all good as it's precut fuel! When I'm actually hanging in the the woods my not worried as there's bigger density of bigger trees so you'd have to be seriously unlucky.
Success doesn't come to you, you go to it.
