Which 1st - Snugpak cocoon or underblanket

Thanks folks, I discovered the low cost Snugpak system of top quilt, under quilt and cocoon on this forum and have read a lot of the reviews.

I'm a newbie, just starting out. Have a comfy Dutch hammock just waiting for Spring but I want to camp now! Temps would be 0F - 40F. Starting out in back yard, than close to home, etc. Maybe even bring the ground system out initially.

I have a 0 degree mummy that I intend to use as a TQ initially. I also have a Klymit Static V Lite that I can under-inflate and use as a pad. Also CCF pads available if needed.

I like the idea of the cocoon but the under-blanket looks more versatile - maybe four seasons. I may end up investing in both but the question is:

Which would you purchase first?

Under blanket first. After you've tried it out, alone or along with a pad, you might find that you don't need the cocoon. If you mostly camp in the summer, the under blanket will probably be all you need.

Underquilt is definitely more versatile. I use my 20* quilt for anything under 60F and add a pad to get into the teens comfortably.

I'd say go with the underblanket. You can use it on those 55*f nights to keep your back side warm. I would hate using the cocoon in 55*f weather. (55*f or thereabouts)

I have bought the underblanket. It took a little expermenting to get the system I use tweeked in. It is definately more flexible as to usable range of temp.

I'd go under blanket for sure.

I will say though, the more I use my cocoon, the more I kind of like it. It's surprised me how much I like it.

It didn't work quite perfect with my old Yukon Double. The hammock stretched too much and I couldn't get flat enough inside the cocoon. The dutchware hammock I have now though, really seems to help me lay flatter.

I've only used the cocoon so far, having purchased both the TQ and the UQ as well. After doing some customization aka field repairs it's fairly nice and I can get some semblance of a flat lay. The UQ which I'll be testing Wed night certainly seems easier to set up.
