Cliff...you are not getting off that easy. You can always come by Friday or Saturday and visit. In real life....I hope you are feeling better and you will be missed. You need to stay away from those hospitals.I have to withdraw from this one
For those of you who have not met Cliff (OBX ), he is our official alligator wrangler for the hangs, He has been a regular at these hangs since we started them at MMPSP.
Just got back from a road trip this AM to Merchants Mill Pond SP to get some paperwork for the Fat Butt Hang in April ( I will have the thread on that up later today ) and talk to the rangers. They said there will be 3 boy scout troops at the group sites this week end ( and one of them is the Showers with Pigs troop from last year ) and next weekend there is one scout troop with reservations at group site 3 which is the site that is a bit of a hike to get too.
The rangers said that it did snow there yesterday but it did not stick. One of the rangers was very excited to hear about hammocks and said he plans to come visit us next weekend even though he is off. Had to explain to him why he and his wife did not find their ENO DN comfortable with both of them in it.
The Terminator is now trying to get her work schedule changed so she can come up and spend Friday night with us. Told her she needs to let me know so I can pack her cold weather hammock setup.
Yes, would not hurt to have more than oneShould I bring a tail gating tent/ canopy?
Have not seen a double whoopie hooks with spreader bar in the field so it can be an educational experience for everyone. If you don't end up on the ground then you must be doing it right.Hopefully I will be able to set up my double whoopie hooks with a spreader bar correctly
Stubbed my toe...looking forward to your visit. Hopefully you will be able to stick around long enough for dinner. On the other hand...how can we help you get you and wife spend the night...loan you some gear, steal you car keys.....

For those of you who have not been to Merchants Mill Pond SP and or do not know where the group site is.
Go to this LINK.
This is a map of the park. Look at the lower left area of the park and find the area labeled COLEMAN TRAIL. Look to the left and and you will see 3 triangle symbols. This is the drive in group site. We will be at GROUP SITE 1. I will set up a large yellow sign on the highway saying "Hammock Hang" with arrows pointing out the turn. You will turn onto a dirt road and follow it for several hundred feet. When you get to the big sign and the trash bins you are there. You can unload by the camp site but once you have unloaded, please move your car/truck ect to the parking area to the left.
Reminder, as this is a state park, alcoholic beverages are not allowed. I know some folks will being them anyway so if you do, please be discrete about it and pack you empties out. I do not want to have to go thru the trash pulling out the empties.
There is a large men's and women's restroom along with a large shower just a minutes walk from the camp site by the parking area. One of the rangers I talked with today said there is a heater issue at the restrooms and they are working on getting it fixed. Did not ask if it was a hot water heater or building heater problem.
I plan to be at the park by 12 noon at the latest on Thursday.
The old convenience store/ gas station located on Hwy 158 and Mill Pond Rd is open again as a CITGO station. This park is kind of isolated. The nearest grocery store is 5 miles away and back in October when I was last there it was looking very run down. So if you need groceries ect, get them before you get to the park.
If you need help with driving directions, please let me know.
Cell phone service is spotty at best at this site and with each group hang it seems to change as to which cell phone provider is working that weekend. Lets see know...standing on top of the picnic table with my phone pointing north west with one leg behind the other and one hand on top of my head...well it worked once.

A few days ago it showed it was going to snow next week end and now it looks like a fair weather hang. Regardless, I hope you can make it.
