Need some advice from people that have already done this.

I made an underquilt with lengthwise baffles (ripped the widthwise ones out).

If i also rip every other lengthwise seam to create big 10" channels, would that help or hurt?

I'm wondering if there is enough down to fill the space or if it will just slosh around inside.

    Let me know. thanks!

It didn't work so well when I did it. There wasn't enough down to properly fill the area.
If you added more down you'd be good. Imo

I used this process with my last faux-baffle UQ. The 10" channels were very empty at that point, so I added down from a second throw and a re-purposed down jacket from a thrift store. If you don't have additional down to add to it, I suggest not creating that large of a baffle.

Ok. Thanks for stopping me before i ripped something out. I decided to go with a layering approach and initial results are beautiful. I will do a writeup later.

Here is what I have so far, ripped seams and added down to the 4 central channels from another quilt.
Added some tabs for the suspension and just went out to test it. So far it seems promising and the difference is clear when the wind stars blowing.

I also have a modified suspension. Cords going to the whoopie from three points (both ends and the center). At the center added some shock cord to keep things tight and as I get in it gets pulled against the hammock. Not as much work as the CLEW but using a similar principle to get some tension from other points other than the sides.

Here is my first attempt at an under quilt
I went with width wise baffles thinking it would prevent cold air from traveling along the baffles and creates a natural draft tube at the ends.
The two throws are offset to negate the sew through effect.

    Bob,

Your UQ looks great! My friend just used his last weekend at 29F and the offset kept him totally cozy. Don't know how low it could go but he sure is happy!

    Thank you.
I tried it out last week at 4 Deg C. During the day so I had sun effect as well. Was quite comfy.
