WBBBXLC Test Hang - Day In The Piney Woods

This is the second winter test so far.. WBBBXLC, HG 0 degree with 4 oz. overstuff (hey, why not?) 2QZQ UQP.. Used my MSS green sleeping bag just to play with it .. around 28 degrees F and slight wind. Southern Adirondacks.

The top cover really impressed me with how much heat it retained. Really noticeable when you unzipped and crawled out. Really made a nice micro-climate inside.

Problem was getting back into the hammock because my wife commandeered the XLC and held it hostage .. She has an exact duplicate of my rig.

Took some fiddling with the UQ, but we got it dialed in Had air pockets and I remembered what Shug said about getting it real tight and up there.. "Tighter than you think it should be" ..Shortened the main suspension bungies alot and looped the main suspension bungees directly onto the whipping on the ends and clipped the secondary suspension onto the whoopies.

Beautiful setup. Pretty sure this is gonna be my next rig. Is your UQ a Phoenix or Incubator and did you have any issues with your feet pulling the suspension down? I'm still fighting this a bit in my WBBB.

    It's a Incubator 0 degree with 4 oz of overstuff ..

Watch Shug's video on underquilts.. Like he says, you have to tighten the quilt's main suspension up more than what you think. I tied an overhand knot about 8 inches or more back from end of the loops on the ends of my main suspension to get the right lift to get it against my butt and legs. I may have to tighten it more the next time out when I get colder temps and I can lay in it for longer.. We will see.

Then I popped the loops (behind the new knot) over my whipping on both ends to put the suspension bungees closer and in line with the hammock. I left the secondary suspension on the s-biner and clipped that to the whoopies. The UQP was also clipped to the s-biner and tightened up the same way I did the main suspension.

It's a work in progress..but I am almost there I think. BTW- This is the first time I ever used the UQP.. Not really sure that I have it set up right.. but..maybe someone here will add some advice? .. Maybe? .. Please? Pretty please??

Does anyone know what the two tabs are for on the ends of the 2QZQ UQP? The ones that are right where the bungees come out on the top side (as it hangs when you look at it)

    Thanks

Looks like a great time! Shug also has some tips on covering your foot box.

    Donna here...
They are there in case you want to use them for extra attachment areas. Some use them and some don't. A few months ago we contemplated not putting them on anymore, and were told by quite a few to leave them there...so they stay!
