    Hennessy Hammock weights

    Greetings,

I recently had the opportunity to weigh three models of Hennessy Hammocks. I present them for your consideration. I weighed the components with a very accurate gram scale I borrowed from work. All weights below have been converted to pounds. I can't seem to make nice tables in this editor and I apologize for the formatting.

    Hennessy Hyperlight ---- 1.057
Hennessy Poly Hex Fly ---- 1.700
    Hennessy Hyperlight Bag ---- 0.043
    1" tree hugger ---- 0.102
    ----
    Hennessy ULB ---- 0.976
Hennessy ULB Stock Fly ---- 0.459
    Hennessy ULB Bag ---- 0.047
    Snakeskin #2 ---- 0.076
    1" tree hugger ---- 0.102
    ----
    Hennessy Scout ---- 2.000
    Hennessy Scout Fly ---- 0.591
    Hennessy Scout Bag ---- 0.063
    1 3/4" tree hugger ---- 0.160

If you look closely, you'll notice that the Hyperlight hammock is actually heavier than the Ultralight backpacker. I should note that the ULB is a purple model from the clearance list and I don't know if it uses a different fabric from the standard ULB. I opted not to buy (and therefore couldn't weigh) the Hyperlight stock fly because I plan to buy or make a cat cut tarp later. Perhaps the Hyperlight package looses the half pound in the stock fly.

That is very interesting. I would like to be able to weigh one of the ULB in it's normal "stock" color just to see if there is any difference.

I find your results extremely interesting - Hennessy lists the ULB at 1 lb 15 oz. That's over 15 oz more than what you weighed your ULB to be. That is the first time I have ever seen a manufacturer under-specify their product by that large a margin. Especially something being sold to hikers. If other ULB hammocks prove out to weigh that little, maybe he could start a new trend - I think everybody would like that.

Just weighed my BUL and Hyperlight. Both with no fly. Ring/buckle suspension with 12 feet webbing per side and snakeskins weighed also:
    BUL-1lb 14.8oz
    Hyperlight-1lb 10.9oz

    Stock Hyperlight tarp-7.9oz

I suspect that the 1 pound 15 oz weight includes everything in the package. Still, the ULB hammock, ULB Fly, ULB bag, and 2 1" tree huggers comes to a grand total of 1.583 pounds or 1 pound, 9.3 oz. For some reason, the purple hammock is lighter than I expected and very competitive with the much more expensive hyperlight. On sale, the purple hammock package, which came with a set of snakeskins by the way, was $129. I bought it for my daughter so that she could swing in the trees with me. Had I known ahead of time, I might have sacrificed the last shreds of my masculinity and gone for a second colorful hammock myself. Purple does tend to make stealth camping a bit difficult though and the hyperlight has really nice fabric that feels good to sleep on.

I'm going to have to drag the scale into my local REI and measure the standard ULB.

My ULB comes in at around 1 lb. 12 oz. without the fly.

IIRC, my BULA is ~20 oz w/o the fly. The 31 oz includes fly, huggers and stuff sack...basically, if you don't unpack it and put it right on the scale.

Interesting on the BUL. What does the webbing weigh? The rings weigh 0.4 each, so subtracting that still yields 1 lb 13.2 oz with the webbing. That brings the BUL quite a bit under his specified 1 lb 15 oz. I hope he starts a trend by overstating weights - think of how happy everybody would be especially the SUL people.
