Heading out on Saturday - 30 inches expected - wish us luck!

    Hey all,

Heading out for a bit of fun on Saturday night. It'd been planned for awhile, the snow will just add to it. A friend and I will be about 30 miles north of DC, hiking back about a mile from the road. He will be in a Ridge Runner with a JRB Mt Washington 3. We are going to try to put a peapod around it, but I am not certain about the fit. I will have a Warbonnet XL, DL, with a 0 degree Incubator. Both of us will have pads, 0 degree bags, and hot water bottles.

At the moment, we are expecting about 30 inches of snow starting Friday night into Saturday, with snow continuing into Sunday with a few more inches

I'll post back with a trip report and pictures.

    Wish us luck!
    Pete

Wow... good luck. That is hardcore! I would take some extra food and fuel in case you can't get your vehicle out once you are done with your trip. You might be camping for longer than you think!

Sorry to pass judgment but you could die out there.

The weathermen are saying this could be an "epic" storm.

Stay safe! I would definitely keep bailing out at any time in the back of your mind. Don't know how maintained your access road is but you should keep extra supplies in your car as well in case your car gets snowed in.

I'm sure of it! I couldn't imagine doing any of this without snowshoes, so hope they packed em!

Take along plenty of food/gear. With what we are expecting they are saying roads will be impassible until late Monday or Tuesday and I would suspect longer up on the mountains.

It sounds like it will be an epic adventure. Even in Michigan, I can't imagine getting 30" inches of snow all at once. The most I remember is about 2 feet and we're used to driving and dealing with it. Safe journey and don't forget the snow shovels and extra fuel & food. Remember, pictures or else it didn't happen
