I would think that Brandon would simply send you a new set of (matched) dogbones. Whole lot less hassle than returning the hammock.

You'd think. Didn't make much sense to me either. I dont think I have ever received an email directly from Brandon, it's always some guy named Ryan.

An easy way to slightly shorten an Amsteel lead by 1/4 to 1/2 inch would be to bury another piece of line within the braid for a few inches, like you're doing a splice, but with both ends buried. The outer sheath will be forced to slightly shorten around the constriction. You could leave the tails of the inner piece exposed on the outside until you have things adjusted properly, then cut them off an pull them in so they're permanent. My experience has been that the outer sheath of a bury shortens by about 15 to 20% of the length of the bury.

The OP should not have to "fix" a brand new hammock.

    So, here's a thought:

First, I have to believe that WB will make this right. They have a reputation for great customer service. If somehow this all goes south, make a new set of dogbones (or take one of the posters up on the offer.) They're easy to make. Dutch has 7/64 black Amsteel. Great first splicing project. As long as you're careful marking the Amsteel for the various spots for the locked brummels, etc., they should come out exactly the same length. (I'd even make them...)

Now you have a hammock that works properly. Send the defective pair back to WB, asking for replacements. Postage will be peanuts.

When the dust settles, you'll have a perfect hammock and an extra set of dogbones!

To send the hammock back and they would replace it. But, someone is sending me a replacement set of dogbones, so I'll be putting them on when they get here and testing it out first. I'd be psyched if I don't have to wait the extra time for a new hammock. Tracking says the dogbones should be here Monday. Thanks for the info on splicing guys, I'll be toying around with it and maybe put a set that I made on the hammock one day.

The offer to replace the entire hammock, although a total solution, just doesn't sound like the ideal way to make a customer happy in this particular case. I'd rather fiddle with swapping the dogbones than mess with packing up the hammock and shipping it if the dogbones are the only problem.
