Wonder where you got the 1/4" foam?
Also I was looking at ripstop site and see they have 1/8 and 1/4" spacer mesh. Any idea the benefit of the thicker mesh, can it replace foam in the straps?

I have to say that is one fine piece of equipment you built there. Excellent diy job..
Very nice!
you can get foam here http://sweetcomposites.com/Minicel.html

This is the stuff I used, as we have a Foam Factory about 15 mins away from where I live. Next time I'd use the 3/8 thick foam, because it really doesn't add much weight, and it adds quite a bit more padding. Anything above 1/4in thickness and a basic home machine is probably going to have trouble sewing through it, however you can get away with making straps of pretty much any thickness without sewing through the foam, you just have to make sure to sew all the webbing/hardwear on before you sew the strap material to the spacer mesh. (Hope that makes sense) lol
As far as the 1/8in and 1/4in spacer mesh, I only really have experience with the 1/8in spacer mesh. I think you could get away with omitting the foam from the straps if you didn't plan on carrying a load over maybe 12-15lbs, but anything above that and I would assume you would want at least some extra padding in there.
Great looking pack, a little out of my diy league for now.
That is awesome. Good job..
