    Hammock stand, under 120$ DIY

    Hey guys and gals,

I have recently been searching for a way to get in my hammock more while not necessarily going 30 miles from my house on a weekend.
So the solution for me was to build my own hammock stand. I figured I could make one for less than I could by one for, and I was right!

I went to Home depot to find materials, and decided to go with rust-free steel. It was about 20$ for a 10' by 1" pipe, and I needed 4 of them. I had the guy at home depot cut 2 of the ten footers into 7 feet, and the other two into 6 feet. I'll leave instructions below.

    - 4 foot across base on both sides, two 2 foot bars connected by a 1'tee joint
    - 6 feet tall, screwed into the upward facing tee joint dock
    - two 10 foot poles cut down to 7 feet connected by a steel dock, 1' and 1' elbow joints connect the top beam to the vertical bars

This all costs about 115 dollars, so its considerably less than one you could buy online. It's very sturdy, it won't rust , and it can be taken apart if needed. I would not however, keep it outside in the rain.
You know, steel bars + thunder and lightning= possible death

Have fun with this1 if you have any questions just ask, I would be more than happy to help you make your own!

Nice, yeah, that looks about right!

One thing I found recently, to protect against lightning, there is a paint product called Y-Shield Paint. It blocks all electromagnetic/Electric signals, and can be applied to almost any surface.

It would require a decent coating of the paint, but would work if you really really wanted to hammock in a storm. The only downside is that it costs about $20 for a 4 oz. can.

Alright Gang, I got it up!

Went to home depot last night around 7:30, got the rest of the material, and by 9:00, it was 100% ready to go.

Works like a dream, and I enjoyed some lovely tea from the hammock this morning.

sorry the pic is so small, I don't know how to make it larger. but if you click on it, it will expand

So (I don't know this brand specifically) this stuff generally works by creating a conductive shield around whatever you want to protect from EM fields, and this requires a surrounding enclosure. Painting this stuff on a conductive metal will just make it slightly more conductive. You could paint it with an insulating paint like plasti dip or something similar which could help, but honestly I'd just stay indoors.
