Canada>Ont>EGL Gearing Up For Winter 2015-2016 "Still Waiting to Gear Up For Winter"

"Still Waiting to Start Gearing Up For Winter"

    Planning Thread

Well another interesting hang is in the books. Thanks to weather conditions beyond our control, what we hoped would be a sub-zero campout turned into more of a rain and mud-fest. Nevertheless, good times were, I think, had by all.

In addition to the normal motley crew, we had the pleasure to welcome Connie & Martin out on their first group hang. We also had a number of drop-bys come around and chat Saturday night and again Sunday morning, including a pair of left-handed ginger Kevins (Seriously, what're the chances?). All hammock converts or future hammock converts.

I'd like to thank everyone who turned out despite the bad weather and especially to Jiblets for his excellent dutch oven pizza, Lovemybonnet for his amazing dutch oven pot roast and finally to Connie for two of the most delicious homemade apple pies I've had in a long time. Thanks also to Mark for the wood that kept us warm all weekend!

Here's to hoping that everyone got home safe and sound and that our upcoming "Winter Hang" is slightly less balmy!

I had a great time! I told a friend when I got home that it really doesn't matter that much about the weather. As long as you in the woods with good people that's all that matters.
I would have liked it to be about 40* colder to test the Smokehouse.
Connie's apple pies were delicious. She also brought some homemade miso soup. MMMMMM!
I got home just before it started snowing in Buffalo. Go figure.
I wasn't able to bring home a bag of milk but was able to score a 5 pack of Coffee Crisps and a nice bottle of scotch.

Soggy but enjoyable. Thanks to Connie for the pie, LuvmyBonnet for the roast, Jiblets for the pizza and Mark1065 for the wood.
Got caught in the snow on my way home and asked aloud, "Wtf have you been!". Oh well, any time sitting in front of a fire amonst friends and sleeping in a hammock in the woods is aces in my books regardless of the weather. Looking forward to the next one!

Great Times for the night I was there !
however, it felt more like a soggy spring hang then a winter hang

It was nice to sit around the fire and chat amongst friends.

Looking forward to the Winter Hang at the end of the month

    Cheers

    Hi gang,

It was amazing Karma that I joined this forum the day you were having this group hang!!! I got admin approval late last night but have been itching to say a thank you to all who took the time to explain and answer my numerous questions and for the show and tell of all the equipment and mods!!! I only have two regrets: I wish I had joined a week earlier as myself and a good friend would have definitely joined you, and that I said no to the apple pie!

My buddy and I will be doing a hang in Dacre Ontario Feb 6th weekend while the rest of the crew sit in a stinky cabin on uncomfortable beds.

    Take care everyone,

    Kevin

Thank you all for welcoming Martin and me!
It was great seeing familiar faces and meeting some of the gang.
Although the weather wasn't as good as we hoped, it actually worked for me (sorry guys). My DIY tarp passed its test - no leak, awesome!
Kevin, I do bake more than once a year....so don't give up.

Thanks for the great food, wine and mostly company.
Look forward to seeing you folks at another hang.

It was a wet one alright. No cold weather equipment testing, more like a waterproofing test
I just put away the smokehouse now that it's finally dried.
Again thanx to who cooked community food for us and Mark for another fine load of wood.
Hopefully the next EGL hang will actually be in true winter fashion. COLD!
    Cant wait!
No signs,no fees,no rules, nobody. My kind of campsite.

Thank you to all for the warm welcome, there is obviously a wealth of knowledge (and good food) to be had if we would have stayed longer. Now there is a little curiosity with mrs niagara for a couple reasons: 1. She realized i was not living in an imaginary world of hammock camping dreamworld somewhere that i access through my iPad..... 2. She cant believe that all the hammock gear i bought can be had for the price i told her.....(oh how i hope she doesnt find the vendor sites.......) niagara
