To start with and on occasion afterwards, I will need to use a pad. Is it better to get a double layer to slide the pad into? I am currently using a neoair XLite but have other pad options available.
Thanks in advance.

If you use a pad often, I think you'll find a double layer a lot more comfortable. Before I got my WBBB XLC, I had a single layer hammock and it was always an aggravation trying to keep my pad positioned correctly. After I bought my double layer WBBB XLC, I never had that problem ever again. The pad stays right where I put it. I never need to reposition it...even on multi-night campouts. It stays put right as I lay it. If you have to use a pad, double layer WBBB XLC is definitely the way to go.
Great thoughts. It will be a double layer. I will add an UQ soon.
I will need the ability to go to ground at times. Thus the pad.
Thanks for the help.
Sounds like you have already decided but i will second the opinion. I rarely use a pad but i went with a double layer anyway and every time I use the pad I am very glad I did. It's easy to use and, as mentioned, keeps that pad right where I want it. You'll be glad you did.
Does a rectangular or mummy shaped pad matter to make sure it stays in place? In other words does the mummy move around any of the foot end? Doesn't sound like it but just wanted to make sure.
Also, I have the Hennessey Hammock Explorer Deluxe right now. Any one here tried it or a Hennessey compared to the Warbonnet? Wondering which one is more comfortable. Haven't had an opportunity to try the Warbonnet XLC and don't know of anyone who has one I know. I like how the Warbonnet has so many features.
A pad stays in place very nicely in the XLC because of the dl. You can place it with a little diagonal and it wont move. At least mine doesn't. Very comfy setup and you can't beat Warbonnet for quality.
I've never used a mummy shaped pad, mine is rectangular and it seems to work just fine. I would think the extra real estate provided by the wider pad would be welcome over the narrower mummy shape.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

Backpacking or car camping? If its going in my pack, I'd get a single layer and spend and extra $100 and get a Jarbidge. I wish now that my blackbird was single layer simply for pack weight.
