    Question about suspension

    Hey guys,

I was putting my hammock together this evening and came upon something I was not sure of.

What is the best way to connect a whoopi sling to a tree huger?

I have two 1oz carabeiners that I could use to clip both ends together. Another option I considered is just a simple loop knot. (since I don't know the exact name, here's a photo!)

Imagine the metal loop being a loop at the end of a tree huger.

My question with this: It looks unsafe. Not that it would break, but it does bunch up the bottom of the tree huger.

The other end of the whoopi sling has a dutch hook that hooks to my hammocks continuous loop for easy removal if need dismantling.

Are my fears overly cautious, or is that a okay method to secure the sling to the hugers without the added weight of the beiners.

Also. How long should my Tie outs be on my tarp? I am going to use adjustable knots for my tie outs, but needed a basic length to start off.

Also. How do you attach a adjustable ridge line to a hammock? >__<

    Question about suspension

I think a lot of folks attach Whoopieslings to straps with a Marlin spike hitch.

    That's what I do.

Slip the ends of your ridge line over your Whoopieslings.

I'm not pro, but I have mine as you showed in the picture. Hasn't dumped me on the ground for the multiple nights I've used it!

That will work fine but when you have this on the loop of a tree hugger, "Rotate" the the line towards the tree hugger loop.
At least thats is the way I learned to do it.

You may want to watch some of Shug's videos for all those things. Great explanations with the videos. BTW I use a Marlin Spike Hitch to attach huggers to whoopies.

How to use Marlin-Spike-Hitch with whoopies and straps with Shug:

I use 6' tie outs on the "left" side and 8' tie outs on "right" of my tarp. This is useful if you hang on the side of a hill or want to setup your tarp in porch mode using your hiking poles.

Most of us use a Marlin Spike Hitch. Check out this video series on our kits....should give you some good basics that run across most hammocks. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...UTSRGIeSUq_w34

I just felt schooled on so many levels. I guess I didn't look at my ridge line that well to consider doing that.

And than you guys for the info. I am going to test out both ways. Maybe find some piping around the house sine we are currently building a addition to the house.
