    Hammersley Wild Area?

Anyone have info on the Hammersley Wild Area in Pennsylvania?

Me and my backpacking friends are planning to head there for a 1-2 night stay. Wed stay longer but it's impossible to get our schedule lined up, and we all have families with young children waiting for us at home.

We'd like to hike to take a swim in the Hammersley pool, and hammock camp near there.

Any info, tips, or advice would be appreciated!

I don't know when you're planning on going but I went in July and the water was freezing. When you go most times you'll pretty much have the place go yourself.
There's a nice parking area near the store in cross fork. There's plenty of parking and a public bathroom. Ask at the store - they'll point you in the right direction.

I've heard the pool is ice cold most of the year since it's spring fed, which is exactly what my body needs after a hike. Definitely looking forward to it. Any other tips would be awesome.

If you go in mid July there's wild blueberry's growing on the ridge top if you hike from cross fork. I need to go back

Did you ever make the trip? I am heading out Fri-Sunday this weekend for a backpacking/fishing trip with a few friends. Parking at the base of the Hammersley fork and hiking up a few miles to pitch our base camp... Can't wait.

Actually next weekend was our weekend to go, but a few people had to cancel. I think we'll be hitting the pinchot trail instead this weekend in that Lackawanna state forest, with a few less people.

Every day is a good day.

There is a USFS parking lot in the town of Cross Fork. From there to Hammersley Pool it's about a 5-6 mile hike. I did it as an out and back with some new hikers back in 2007. The hike starts as a short road walk, and you have to keep an eye out for the turn into the woods. If you can find a ride you can hike from Cross Fork through to the next road crossing, which is something like 12 or 13 miles I think (it's been a while).

Cool. I think we're bagging the Catskills for now. Maybe go up there this fall.
