12 ft Standard Tarp with Doors OR the 12 ft Winter Palace for WBRR.

I have a WB Ridge Runner and am interested in a Cuben fiber tarp from Hammock Gear. Has anyone experienced both the 12 ft Standard Tarp with Doors and the 12 ft Winter Palace? I am specifically interested in knowing if it is really worth it to get the Winter Palace. I live in Florida and do some hiking and sea kayaking here, but also hike and backpack in the Appalachians.

    Thoughts appreciated.

    Kind Regards,
    Doc B

The Winter Palace has roughly the same width as my superfly that I use with my Ridgerunner. Personally, I wouldn't want a tarp that had any less width... I think the 12ft winter palace is the ideal tarp for the ridgerunner if you can stomach the cost. Adam will even space the pullouts further down the tarp...a request he has accommodated many times for this purpose. Hope this helps.

Yes, Thanks so much Hikenbike. I am glad you mention that the Standard Tarp is smaller than the Superfly. For some reason I imagined them to be similar in size. Thanks so much!

Maybe it's not too late to request more spacing

I ordered a 13ft Winter Palace from HammockGear, it'll be here monday. After talking with him a bit it was decided that the 12ft version wouldn't cover all of the suspension, keeping me from getting a good seal on the doors. He only charged an extra $15 for the extra foot. I can post pictures once i get it set-up if you'd like?

I have a 12' standard with doors. I think the coverage is great, but...if I were to do it again I would go with the winter palace. My reasoning for this is you can still have headroom to stand while maintaining good side coverage. The one time I had to pitch my standard low to keep the weather out, I really had to crouch to do anything under the tarp! You would only have to pitch it that low if the weather is really bad or blowing. The winter palace would just give you more room under the tarp to move around during inclement weather!

What is the difference in "normal" pullout placement vs the placement needed for the Ridgerunner?

The pull outs on the a tarp made for a ridgerunner are spaced further apart for the spreader bars. If you let Adam at HG know what it's for when you place the order he'll take care of it and knows the dimension needed for it. I'm unsure of the difference in real #'s as both of my tarps we made for the ridgerunner.
