You can use both a pad and an underquilt. If the underquilt is not warm enough, you can supplement with a pad. But it's nicer to only use an underquilt.

LunoLunoLuno, I own both the DD underblanket and the DD topquilt and use them 3 seasons in Germany. I think it will be warm enough even for winter in Portugal.

Cool! I'm looking for experiences with that setup specifically . Down to what temperature have you slept with it and with what sort of clothes (if any) on?

When I got my DD stuff I tested it in windy conditions without a tarp at 3,9°C for a 2 hour nap. I wore socks, long underpants a T-shirt and a beret. I didn't mount the underblanket the right way and my back was a little bit cold. I think some wind was blowing between the hammock and the underblanket. But the rest of the body was toasty warm.

Some weeks later I had a full night sleep at about -2 or -3°C with wool socks, long underpants, jeans, T-shirt and an fleece pullover. My tarp blocked the little wind. This time the underblanket fitted perfectly and my back was warm.
