I'm pulling the trigger on a new hammock this week, too. I'm in the midwest with bad mosquitos in the Summer but I'm thinking permathin and a summer liner will protect the legs. Feel free to call me out if I'm wrong on this.

Also this is my first year with an underquilt and I'm having problems getting a tight seal below freezing, so I ordered quilt clips and a sock from Dutch. Does anyone have experience using an HG Incubator with this hammock? Will the knotty mod or net design effect the seal or using the clips?

I like pack hooks (ITW Nexus, I believe) for the UQ but I haven't seen a convenient source. Maybe you-know-who would like to add them to the DIY offerings(?) Or maybe as an add-on option for the hammocks as he does with Knotty Mods...

I have a liner but it presents basically the same problems as a sleeping bag in a hammock. Maybe the answer is to modify one to a TQ configuration.

This is why I went with a WBBB XLC... 2 hammocks in 1. A fully enclosed integrated bug net for the bug months and then an open top for winter hanging and just lounging. Also, I have been bitten through alot of clothes and things so I knew 1 light little layer of hammock wouldn't do me any good when the blood suckers are out in full swing. Just sucked it up with the little bit of additional weight and bought a double layer. Havnt been bitten through the hammock yet and it makes for additional options with insulation.

I have not tried yet, but in theory the halfwit can be flipped over to have the bugnet completely out of the way in winter

I prefer a net less hammock, when I can get away with it. I just bought the halfwit for the times that I'm just not quite sure the skeeters are gone. I haven't tried it yet. This last November I carried a head net just in case, but didn't have to use it. Also, I'm guessing gnomad is correct in that you can just flip it over to go completely net less.

Yes if you extent the shock cord on the bugnet, you can flip over the hammock and have a netless hammock.

I just tried out my Halfwit for the first time Friday night. Great nights sleep and given there were so many bugs for April in NJ I had no bug problems.
My Blackbird will now be my motorcycle camping hammock and the Halfwit for backpacking. The only thing I missed was the shelf of the Warbonnet, but the ridge line organizer I've got on order will solve that issue.
I was hesitant to get it, thinking I might feel exposed without the full bugnet, but given Dutch's great prices and loving everything else I'd bought there I took the plunge and I'm sure my knees will appreciate it on my first non-motorcycle trip in a couple of weeks.
