    Hello from Ontario

    Happy new year everyone!

Just wanted to write to say hi. I just got my first hammock, and am looking forward to getting to use it when the weather gets a bit nicer. (Hopefully I can find someplace to set it up and try it before then.)

I am completely new to hammocking, but I love the idea of using it for camping, and am planing a trip to Algonquin Provincial Park later this year, though I know I will be using it a bunch of times before that.

I picked up a Trek Light Gear double hammock, their bug net and V9 tarp. I also picked up their smaller gear loft hammock and their hang anywhere rope kit. I am thinking that the rope kit should be used for the gear hammock, since the rope isn't real thick, and I wouldn't want to risk damaging trees. I have also picked up a pair of ENO slap straps, and ordered a Kelty Noah's tarp 12- just so I have some tarp choices depending on my camping plans.

I am still looking into insulation, but I am thinking a PLUQ and a sleeping bag should meet my needs, but being new to this, I really have no idea.

Any suggestions for a new hanger are certainly welcome, and I'd love any info people may have about backcountry canoeing in Algonquin Park. After that trip, I'm thinking I'll plan a long hiking trip.

    Thanks for reading!

I think a PLUQ will do you just fine if you aren't wanting to hang in late fall, winter, or early spring. A PLUQ will only keep you so warm. PL are great, but they do have limitations with how thin they are. Welcome to the forum and hope you get to hang sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the welcome! I will see if I can get to Valens, even if it's only for part of the time.
