    Pad settup for Blackbird xlc

I'm super new to hammocking and am wanting to take my Blackbird XLC 1.1 double out on its maiden voyage this weekend in middle TN. I don't have a UQ yet but I do have the winter cover and Superfly tarp and a descent mummy bag I'll be sleeping in. I have one of those cheap blue wallyworld mats and a bunch of Reflectix which I heard will help in lieu of and UG. My question is which is the best placement of the mat and Reflectix? Is having the bottom layer, then blue mat and then Reflectix, top layer, then me in the sleeping bag the best configuration or should I try something else? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Reflectix tends to collect condensation if it's close to you... You shouldn't really need it. Take that wally world pad and cut it in half. Put them under you in such a way they create a "T" with the cross under your shoulders. Take an extra piece of foam to stick under your feet (inside the foot box of your sleeping bag). Don't forget to wear a hat! Keep a hot water bottle nearby just in case so you can put it between your legs if you need to.
I've had bad luck with condensation inside the winter cover on my XLC... I would just stake your tarp down to the ground and just use the bug net if you want the shelf...
You should always try this stuff out at home but if your trying in the field make sure your near your car or another place you can bail if you need to.

The Terminator had a condensation problem when using a pad in her BB. I did not. We switched to UQs as they where more comfortable and there is no moisture problem.

I used a full length inflatable, and put my rain gear, jacket up around my shoulders. I have used refletix (windshield reflector) in the cool summer nights just to break the wind also with no moisture problems for me. I never had an issue with condensation personally, but my buddy who started hanging with a pad had horrible problems.

I upgraded to underquilt and am quite happy. Your mileage may vary, so go forth to try it for yourself.
And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it
But I wouldn't trust a person like me, if I were you

Since pads are not breathable, they are all prone to condensation. Some people seem to produce more than others. Whether pads works for you probably also depends on what you're used to. I started with a pad and used it until night time temperatures dropped to ~60°F. I always had a slightly humid back, but it felt worse when it got colder. This was one reason to switch to an underquilt. I recently added a pad to boost my underquilt's performance and promptly had a wet back (although I don't sweat much), so I wouldn't go back without need.

You might have better results with an exercise mat. (Also from WallyWorld) I find it to be more comfy in my XLC. A little bit wider and good for me to mid thirties. Never had a moisture issue with it since its between the layers. Got a Klymit to try next.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. All were very helpful! It got down to 20f and I only woke up because my toes started getting a little cold. I tried fighting it thinking it was around 2 or 3am, then I heard the voices of my friends who all camped in their tents complaining that I was sleeping in to long. I would say it was a great success and I'll prob. just wear an extra pair of socks next time. Thanks again! You guys rocks!
