+1 on the browns and greens. Something about blending into nature, just feels right.
I like trying to coordinate colors but it gets even harder once you throw in an underquilt and tarp. At least the tarp will hide my collage of clashing colors most of the time. I don't use camo but go with orange a lot. School colors and plus one about hunters.
usually earth and drab tones. i don't mind some color, either. but my main stuff is fairly bland. no camo.
but my bits and pieces are usually colorful and bright so that i can see it.

I think actual "disappearing" with camo is more wishful thinking. Sure, it can be done, but not without more effort than a usual hang between trees. Once I stood next to some Army/National Guard guys in a line. I was going to purposely turn and bump into one and say, "Sorry, I didn't see you." then I'd turn and walk into the other one. But I wasn't sure how much of a sense of humor they'd have.
I used to go with dark colors but then I woke up one morning feeling the other extreme and bought a DIY blaze Orange hammock off the Forum. I figured if I was stuck kayaking somewhere, I'd want something someone could see. That said, I usually never use it because I prefer my "camping" hammocks.
For day hikes, I prefer something brighter, lighter colored - maybe multicolored. I'm thinking my next hammock will be blue, but I'm afraid my housemate/hiking partner will like it and I'll have to buy another one for her. One the other hand, since I've introduced her to hammock camping, I've pretty much gotten used to just doubling the price of everything (because I'll be getting two)
When I was picking out tarps, one vendor told me - as I was edging towards the darker colors (theoretically dry faster) that if one has to spend any time awake under the tarp, it much cheerier of it is a lighter gray or green and not so much in the brown/black spectrum.
Just an out of shape middle aged guy who loves doing outdoor things with his great kids...

I tend to like earth tone greens and browns, not much of a camo person. My daughers hammock is Hexon 'Brilliant Blue', it sure stands out.
Doesn't really matter what color my hammock is, since I generally use a bright orange tarp!
My underquilt and some other gear I have are green now... might start moving some of my equipment into stealth mode, and go with more earth toned stuff.
My pack is grey with yellow webbing/straps. I don't might standing our, but I'm never really stealth camping either.
Camo will be good. Any dark color will be OK except dark one.
