Are you going to start hiking in on Friday night or Saturday morning ? I live about 1 1/2 hours from the Thompson trail head.

I may do just that. I'll know for sure in the next day or two. Where exactly is the sunset red area ??? I've never heard of it.

Id you need a good free map of the area check out http://www.briartech.com/sipseyonepagea.pdf. I blow it up and just print out the areas I need. It has the highlights like shiprock and eye of the needle marked as well as other POI.

It's spotty at best. I've gotten a text message out on the higher areas like the top of Bee Ridge but it took a bit. I wouldn't count on being able to make a call.

Thinking about coming out ? We are going to meet at the sipsey recreation area off cranal road on Friday evening and go from there on Saturday morning .
