100 lbs enough for tarp guy lines?

I just received 100lb fishing line I ordered off of amazon.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o02_s00

When I bought it, I was thinking 100lbs would be way more than enough for side tie outs. Now, I am second guessing myself. Thoughts?

Yep, you're good with the Spectra.

I bought some of the same stuff (or similar - mine was red) on ebay. It does make ultralight guy lines, and it's plenty strong enough. I worried about knotted spectra cutting itself, like kevlar, (perhaps needlessly), so I sleeved the end 6" with dacron kiteline and tied a bowline. I never untied these bowline loops. The other end I ran though my tarp tie-out points and tied slippery taut line hitches to make untying easier. This worked well, but it required some care to keep the line from tangling between setups. I say use it, and don't bother with sleeving it at all. You'll soon know if it's what you want to keep. It only cost $6. Nowadays I use zingit for tarps, but I carry a few 8' lengths of this stuff as spares or guy-line extenders.

I find anything less than about 1mm to be unpleasant to handle and tie up, but this stuff will definitely be strong enough for guy lines.

A bunch of use 100 lb. rated Atwood micro-cord. I've had it hold my Winter Dream in 25+ mph wind gusts with no problems using tarpworms and shock-cord tensioners. I've even tripped on it a couple of times with no worries.

I do use either 200 lb strength cord for a CRL or Zing-It for tarp end suspension. But for the stakes, I've not had issues with 100lb.

My nephew is a deep sea fisherman and when loading his reels there is quite a bit left on a spool. I recently got some 150# army green Spectra from him. Works great for guylines but I found when using in porch mode you can walk into them if not paying attention. I sleeved a 5" section of orange reflective cord over the lines to make them more visible. As far as tangling, if figure 8 wrapped around thumb and little finger and tail wrapped around the bundle, they shake out easily for me. In use I attached bra hooks, similar to mini dutch hooks, on the outer ends which hook around other trees, bushes or found stakes. The adjustable end loops thru the shock cord loops on the tarp corners and secure with slippery half hitches. The 4 guylines at 15' weigh only 2g ea.
