Olddog Me and my son are planning on being at McNeil Friday between 9:00 and 9:30 to meet Big Country. I don't recall seeing that either and I'm sure it was the 2.9 miles per hour, I was busy trying to get air. That entire day i was thinking about what i don't need next trip.

"checking my math, I may leave tomorrow and camp at Concession Stand tomorrow (New Years Eve). nearly 20 miles is a bit much for a fat old man with no current training"
Checking my sanity I retract this plan. I wish to hike about 10 miles Friday before reaching Gator Hole. It looks like I could park at Compressco Entrance and walk to compressco campsite before following Saturdays route back to gator hole. Does that sound right??

PS I just made a Costco top quilt (to showcase at show and tell) which I will be trying out. I'm going to leave my pads and try a new packing plan. I have half a dozen things I always carry and never use. Those things will stay behind this time.

I'm with Grinder. I planned on going as light as possible this trip. My base weight runs anywhere from 14-17 1/2 lbs. depending on what I take. This trip will be more like 13 1/2. The stool and the crocs stay home. My suggestion is, if you don't need it, leave it. It will make the hike, much easier. Also, don't forget, the permits will be on my windshield(white Nissan Frontier). There are two of them. One for Gator Hole Friday and one for Foster Bridge Saturday. I would leave them on the dashboard of your vehicle. Don't know how strict they are on this, but doesn't hurt to comply.

Looking at the map that should be close to the 10 miles you're looking for.

Ok you guys made me trim some fat (that usually kills the flavor) but I did take 2 lbs out. The rest is food and I always pack to much food. Lol

    See you guys tomorrow.

Weighted the pack today, 15 lbs. less food and water but with the bourbon. Figured I could put the stool back in the load, it's only a pound and so nice to have at camp. Packing the regular food load, more than necessary, but hoping to find some fish in Gator Hole for lunch and dinner Friday. Might be better off not finding the fish and just reducing the food load a bit. That Saturday hike can be a bit of a work out with the climbing of Florida's versions of Mt. Washington, Mt. Katahdin and others majestic peaks. See y'all at the trailhead or at Gator Hole tomorrow.

Mine's 14.3 with no stool, just the inflatable sit pad. I can make use of the picnic benches. See ya in the morning!

Well I'm not lugging 40lbs again lol. With food and water I'm right at 20 and some change. I have a bottle of satsuma rum but I do not want to carry it lol.
