    I'll stick with knots and site selection instead of adding weight, complexity. Has worked for me for decades. Only destroyed one shelter in all that time. I did kick the bear and he swung back.

    I was toying with the idea of using a single titanium split ring on the ridgeline of my tarps rather than two regular split rings which I know work well. The ti ring didn't survive very long in the wind.

    I've had a few singles start to elongate but since moving to double split rings I've not seen any elongation. Ideally the split ring should fail first, preventing any tearing or stitch elongation on the tarp. Carry a few in your kit for field replacement, 12mm SS are available at most quality fishing stores.

    This makes sense, use a split ring so it can fail if necessary to save more expensive gear, but use stronger split rings so they don't fail TOO easily and carry spares just in case.
    I might get stronger split rings and use them on all tarps.
