Things are looking grim. Slowhike called and said they are closing all the Va.State Parks. Marci has contacted him and also her boss Harvey . So hold tight for a minute (it's 12:55). Homerun is getting there now. Poppins is there and others are arriving this hour,not sure if they will be asked to leave yet. More to follow shortly.

Hey guys, Marci (formerly) of the park here. Due to the weather conditions forecast for the weekend on top of the existing snow, the powers that be have decided on a mandatory closure for Grayson Highlands. I was asked to post the bad news here, but if you know how to reach anyone already on their way, please give them a call, text or msg and let them know.
The park is without internet, phone or power, probably until Monday, so there's no way to reach anyone there. I'll do my best to keep an eye on the forums and answer questions, but I'm at another park now and we are having to get ready for the storm ourselves.
The park is surrounded by National Forest, so there's plenty of opportunity for other campsites. Perhaps one a little lower in elevation that would have better access road conditions, less accumulation and lower winds. Unfortunately it doesn't have the wood or the covered amphitheater.
The AT runs right through there. We could easily jump on over to it where it crosses a road north or south of the park.
I think at VA 600 there's a huge parking area right there with lots of camping around it (open?).
And there's always the Iron mountains...
Is Beartree open year round?
The park Rangers just informed us the park is closing and we have to leave
