I use a second full size hammock for mine (I had bought a new one). I make sure it hangs low enough that the gear won't compress my UQ after I get in. Plus, I hang it directly from my hammock suspension, right at the gathers, rather than give it it's own so I don't sink down into it as much, but it also sinks down when I get in, so hanging it this way, you have to be aware that the bottom of the gear hammock doesn't drag after you put your weight into it. Also note, my hammocks are un-modified
I have a green rope hammock that is about the size of a softball when rolled up. I hung it underneath my hammock to hold my night equipment and clothes. My packs were hanging on a tree. I don't know how the net would handle my backpack. It was nice keeping my gear off the ground and close.
I use my pack liner to put everything in if it's going to rain. No additional gear, cost or weight.
