Cool IN > "2016 Hoosier Winter Hang"

    "2016 Hoosier Winter Hang"

    Friday January 15, 2016 thru Sunday January 17, 2016

    Hoosier National Forest
    Indian-Celina Lake Campground

By Mid-January we will all be ready to get out of the house and shake off the effects of "Cabin Fever" and the "Holidays"

The idea is to provide a scenario that will allow first time winter hammock campers the opportunity to see how some of us more seasoned hammock campers utilize our equipment to deal with the cold.

We will be in the North Slope Car Camping Area so you can bring plenty of gear to try, without having to hump it miles into the woods.

Our plan is to get one "Electric Site" so we can set up a table with crock pots full of Chili & Soup. If everyone will bring a covered dish for Saturday night, we will have an old fashion pot luck dinner.

Because we will be in the "Campground" there will be a $3 nightly fee, but there is no entrance fee.

Also, please remember that this is Southern Indiana.......
It may be 50 & Sunny one day and 20 with freezing rain, Ice & Snow the next, so please come prepared!!!!!!

    Hope to see you there.

    Jimbeam,

Trail medic and I have been working on this for sometime and multiple phone calls with Forest Service later this is what came about. To answer your question about trees, there should be plenty of room for multiple hammocks. The plan is to get as many people/hammocks into a site without overloading that site. We will get additional sites as needed.

NFS rules are simple, up to eight people per site. Or in our case up to 8 hammocks per site. As always this will all depend on the trees. So, we can get as few or as many sites as we need or want.

Electric sites are $10 per night / Non-Electric sites are $5 per night. This should average about $3 per person per night.

We have not been able to find a street address for the Indian-Celina Lakes.

Probably the best way is to enter St. Croix, Indiana into your GPS. This will put you in the area.

Indian-Celina Lake is where the Two Lakes Loop Trail is located.

The entrance is approx. 4 miles south of I-64 on SR 37

It is very easy to find!

Trail Medic says the ban on hauling in hardwood is still in effect. If anyone has construction scraps bring them to supplement what firewood we are able to scrounge up. I'll bring a chainsaw in case we find a large down tree. Hope to see a as many Hoosier Hangers as possible in January. We'll even welcome out of state Hangers!

That sounds fantastic. I have a clear calendar for that weekend, and think I can make that happen! Wasn't able to make the fall hang since the football team I coach was in the playoffs. Hope my new winter tarp arrives by then. (C'mon UGQ!)
