    Integrated Bugnet/Cover Combo

I have to say a HUGE thank you to many on this site for posting how-to and general information and innovation and of course the venders.

This is my DIY 10'6" tiger stripped hammock with integrated bugnet/cover combo.
#5 zipper used for bugnet/cover to hammock, #3 sipper used for cover to bugnet.
I intended it to be 11' but for reasons unknown to me it ended up shorter.
Have taken some extended naps but so far no over nighters, comfort level = very good, no noticeable calf ridge so far.

After taking these pics I also added a peak bag, closed up on the peak end with a looped draw string connected to a dogbone via soft shackle to keep it in place, the other end I used shock cord to almost close up the end but will open up plenty large enough to stuff the cover or cover/bugnet inside.

Oh, and added festive lights along the ridgeline.

Needless to say, I'm very proud of this project even if I made plenty of mistakes along the way, some show a bit, some don't.

I just ordered the materials to add an integrated bugnet to my 11 ft argon. Care to share some lessons learned? There are several videos I've researched and planning to follow. I've made several hammocks and my own tarp but I'm a little more afraid of this since I've never worked with zippers before.
Nice job on yours. I'm sure you will enjoy.

Very nice. I am all for integrated nets/covers.
One question. Why 2 zippers? I don’t see the benefit.
If I was to do something similar I would only use one zipper (per side).

Its easy to sew zippers nothing to be afraid of but …..
    • Don’t sew the fabric/net too close to the “teeth/coils”. If you do the zipper can lock.
    • Don’t make sharps turns on the zipper in areas where the zipper have to be operated on a daily basis. Zippers and sharp turns is a bad combination. If you use a radius of approx. 2” or more all is good.

I used a #5 zipper the first time and since then #3.

I pretty much followed Xtrekker video's. If you haven't looked them up they are very informative.
Zippers were not a problem at all, like you I was worried about that part but once I started doing it, no problems.

    Leasons learned;
    1. I would cut both bugnet and cover at the same time and added a little more material to "curve" the corners more. Kind of what Snowball says.
    2. I would make the foot end triangle tighter, which is covered in the video's by Xtrekker. I made them the same size and the head end worked good for the zipper, although next time I would make that one curved more at the point where the zipper would be attaching to it just so the zipper would flow better around the corner. If I made the cover/net removable I would make them both like that.

The cover can open up from the inside when the bugnet is closed. So the cover is actually attached to the bugnet via the #3 zipper and the bugnet is then attached to the hammock via the #5 zipper.

I don't know how it could be accomplished any other way.

I could have used #3 zippers for both but I like the larger pulls on the #5.

If you want to use both at the same time there is no way around 2 zippers but else see the drawing in my first post.
Use the same seize zipper and store whats not used in one end and vise versa.

Okay, I misunderstood. I wanted to be able to use the cover at the same time as the bugnet so the two zippers where necessary.

If you have channel in the front edge of the floppy triangle add some thin elastic cord.
These triangles have also given me problems more than once

Great idea Snowball. I'll give it a look when I get home and see if that's a possibility. I know I made the roll hem pretty small on those but might just have enough room.
    Thank you.

Thanks. Xtrekker video is the main video I've been studying.

No go on the channel, just not enough room to add a small shock cord.

I still have some touch ups to do on it so maybe I'll come up with something. But really it's not too big of a deal, just something I would keep in mind for the next build. And the next build I think I will use you're suggestion from the start.

    Thanks again.
